Gum Health – Two Major Aspects to Caring for Your Gum Health

Preserving our gum health is important to both our smile’s appearance as well as allowing us to keep our natural teeth for a lifetime of service. Researcher’s studies seem to continue to point to a correlation between gum disease and more serious disease such as stroke and heart disease. If you are suffering from gum disease, researchers suspect that you may run twice the risk of getting heart disease

Is it possible for your gum health to improve? The short answer is yes. There are basically two very important factors that contribute to your gum health. Each is very important. I’m speaking about home care and professional care. It will not due to have one done without the other, they both work hand-in-hand. If you attempt to get by on professional care alone, you are headed for trouble. Ask any dental professional and they will tell you that this is true.

As far as caring for our gum health goes, there is a specialized profession that you may not be aware of. These are dentists who have had additional training and their practice is focused on your gum health. These guys are called periodontists. Just like a heart specialist specializes in one particular area, periodontists are dentists who specialize in gum tissue health.

Based on my own personal experiences in this arena, I can say that I received superb care in the periodontist’s office – as far as gum health is concerned. This included the quality of the hygienists’ cleaning. I found that the periodontist’s office was able to provide me with quite a bit more information about making my gums healthy than my general dentist provided. In the end, you have to be careful. My dentists did not refer me. I had to refer myself to the periodontist. I’m glad that I did.

At the bottom of this article you will find that I offer a free report on stopping gum disease and maintaining gum health. What’s in the report are things that your dentist may not have told you or explained to you.

This article is for information purposes only and does not intend to offer advice, diagnosis or treatment for any health problem. If you have or think you might have a health problem of any kind, including that involving gum health, visit your doctor for advice diagnosis and treatment.
