Regular Inspections Of The Home Plumbing System Is A Must!

Drain clogging is very common at homes and every home owner experience it at some point of time. When you flush your toilet or run water in the sink and water begins to build up there only and does not go away, you have a blocked drain.

Knowing what you can do to fix the problem yourself may help you save the cost of calling a plumber. On the other hand, tackling a problem you can’t handle or ignoring the problem for too long can escalate the problem and cause for a significantly more expensive repair in the end.

Often you detect a sewer smell when something backs up anywhere in the house. So, this is the very first sign of having a clogged drain.

When the water from the kitchen sink or the bathroom tub or toilet drains slowly, there is some clogging in your plumbing system. There can be blockage in the fixture trap also if its a single fixture problem. You can fix it yourself using a plunger.

If the drain blockage is happening at more than one location, the problem could be in the drain between the fixture and the main line, or branch drain line. Again, after locating the line, you might be able to unclog it yourself with a plunger or hand auger, but in this instance you might be better off calling a professional plumber to clean it out.

It’s always advisable to have your main drainage system cleaned every few years. In addition to it, regular inspections by professional plumbers to ensure efficient working of the plumbing system helps to be fruitful in the long run.

Plumbers can easily detect the exact location of the blockage and provide us with appropriate solutions. Like, besides the home drains and plumbing system, there can be a blockage somewhere between where your line goes from your house to the main sewer line along your street. This can be difficult for us to identify. This kind of blockage can be due to tree roots and can result in the backing up of the basement main drain line.

Obviously, before you call the plumber you’ll want to make sure you can’t fix the problem yourself. Unclogging drains can often be a relatively simple matter and it doesn’t require any overpriced chemical product. Baking soda and boiling water or baking soda and vinegar can do the trick. If you think hair is the reason your drain is clogged, you can also try a hair removal product. The one thing you should avoid doing is using multiple drain cleaners at the same time. They may interact with one another and cause serious damage to your pipes or septic system.
